MANILA, Philippines— The Supreme Court will hold oral arguments on three petitions against martial law extension in Mindanao.

Last December, 235 members of the 17th Congress approved President Rodrigo Duterte's request for the extension of martial in Mindanao for another year up to the end of 2019.

Members of the House of Representatives’ “Magnificent 7” led by Rep. Edcel Lagman then filed a petition before the high tribunal to counter the extension.

Two more petitions—from lawmakers of the Makabayan bloc and a group of human rights lawyers led by Christian Monsod, one of the framers of the 1987 Constitution—were also filed to question the legality of the extension.

The high court initially scheduled the oral arguments on the first petition filed on January 22 and 23 but it moved the oral arguments to January 29 and 30.

Tune in to the live audio streaming of the first day of the oral arguments scheduled at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019.
