LPA intensifies, now Tropical Depression Usman
MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area being monitored by PAGASA has entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday afternoon and has intensified into a tropical depression.
It was assigned the name "Usman," the 21st tropical cyclone to enter PAR.
In its bulletin, the state weather bureau said that Usman is located at 955 km of east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
No warning signal has been raised as of the 4 p.m. bulletin.
Usman packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph at the center with gustiness of up to 60kph. It continues on its path northwest at 20kph.
PAGASA said the tropical depression has no direct effect on the country at the moment. But Eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands may experience moderate to heavy rains on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
The state weather bureau warned residents of the said areas—especially those near channels and in low-lying and mountainous areas—to take precautionary measures, coordinate with authorities and monitor updates.
