MANILA, Philippines — The typhoon with international name “Man-yi” is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility over the weekend, state weather bureau PAGASA said Friday.

As of 10 a.m., “Man-yi” was spotted 1,255 kilometers east of southern Luzon. It bears maximum sustained winds of 145 km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 180 kph.

PAGASA said “Man- yi” continues to traverse northwest at 25 kph as it approaches the eastern boundary of PAR.

Once it enters the country’s jurisdiction, the typhoon will be given a local name “Tomas.” It will be the 20th tropical cyclone to enter PAR this year.

“Man- yi” has no direct effect on any part of the country at the moment, the state weather bureau noted.

Tropical Depression Samuel, meanwhile, left PAR Thursday night.

  • Saturday morning: 1,445 km east of northern Luzon (Aparri, Cagayan, outside PAR)
  • Sunday morning: 1,290 km east of Aparri, Cagayan
  • Monday morning: 925 km east of Basco, Batanes
