‘Samuel’ on its way to Cuyo Islands
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical depression Samuel started moving toward the Cuyo archipelago late Wednesday afternoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
In a bulletin issued at 5 p.m., PAGASA said “Samuel” is now over the Sulu Sea. Its eye was last seen 65 kilometers south southeast of Cuyo, Palawan.
The tropical depression is bearing maximum winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of 60 kph. It slightly slowed down while moving west at 30 kph from the previous 40 kph.
Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over nine areas:
- Romblon
- southern Occidental Mindoro
- southern Oriental Mindoro
- Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands
- Guimaras
- Iloilo
- Capiz
- Aklan
- Antique
Residents of Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands, Aurora, Quezon, Mindoro provinces, Panay island and Guimaras may experience moderate to heavy rains, PAGASA said.
Samuel—the 19th tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility and the first this month—is expected to exit the country's jurisdiction between Thursday evening and Friday morning.
The state weather bureau said that improved weather is expected starting Saturday.
