MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area spotted off Mindanao will bring rains over parts of the region and may develop into a tropical depression, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Residents of eastern Visayas will also experience rains due to the trough or the extension of the LPA.

As of 3 a.m. Monday, the weather system was located 405 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The LPA may hit land in Mindanao on Tuesday and may become a tropical depression on Thursday once it crosses the Sulu Sea, PAGASA weather forecaster Ariel Rojas said.

It will be given a local name “Samuel” when it becomes the 19th tropical cyclone to enter the country in 2018.

Meanwhile, residents of Bicol region and Palawan will experience cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the tail end of a cold front.

Fair weather is expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon due to the northeast monsoon or amihan. — Gaea Katreena Cabico
