George Ty bags ‘Bossing’ lifetime achievement plum
MANILA, Philippines — PLDT Enterprise has named Metrobank founder and group chairman George S.K. Ty as this year’s winner of the MVP Bossing Lifetime Achievement Award.
The awarding ceremonies were held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Thursday evening.
“Our Bossings are living proof that there are no shortcuts when it comes to success. It is my fervent wish that their stories inspire and empower Filipino entrepreneurs to pursue excellence and ambition, without sacrificing their integrity – the traits of a true Bossing,” PLDT chairman and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan said. PLDT Enterprise is the B2B arm of PLDT, the country’s leading ICT and digital services provider.
Shipping magnate Doris Magsaysay-Ho, president and CEO of A. Magsaysay Inc., was also recognized as the Grand MVP Bossing Awardee.
“We’ve received over 200 nominees since we launched in April, and that speaks volumes about the influence and prestige that the awards exhibit. Tonight is a culmination of that, and we are truly honored and excited to announce the new batch of MVP Bossings,” FVP and head of PLDT Enterprise Mitch Locsin said.
This year, PLDT Enterprise also recognized the achievements of Mary Grace Dimacali, founder of Mary Grace Foods Inc.; Margarita Forés, founder of Cibo; Johnlu Koa, founder of The French Baker; David Leechiu, CEO of Leechiu Property Consultants; Benjie and Maan Lolim, founders of LDP Farms; Richard Sanz, CEO of The FoodAsia Group; Dioceldo Sy, chairman of Ever Bilena Cosmetics; Raj Uttamchandani, chairman and CEO of Esquire Financing Inc. and Delfin Wenceslao Jr., director and chairman of the board of D.M. Wenceslao and Associates Inc.
“Through the MVP Bossing Awards, we wish to empower our local entrepreneurs to make it big despite the odds. Because their successes contribute greatly to society – promoting nation building and inclusive growth along the way,” PLDT chief revenue officer and ePLDT president & CEO Eric Alberto said.
Special awards were given to Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos for her outstanding efforts in public service, championing the welfare of women and children; and to Jam Acuzar for her excellent CSR initiatives, promoting the local arts through the Bellas Artes Project.
“More than their personal successes, we want to highlight that a true Bossing isn’t afraid of change as they drive digital transformation in their respective industries – empowering other businesses to follow suit,” SVP and head of PLDT & Smart Enterprise Business Groups Jovy Hernandez said.
The MVP Bossing Awards, now on its 8th year, is held every two years. Jollibee Foods Corp. chairman and founder Tony Tan Caktiong was the previous recipient of the Grand Bossing award in 2016.
