WATCH: DOT chief shows off ‘no filter’ Boracay ahead of island's reopening
MANILA, Philippines – Hours before the reopening of the world-famous island on Friday, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Puyat showed off the beach of Boracay six months after its temporary closure.
On her Twitter account, Puyat gushed over the beauty of Boracay. She said she is excited for its reopening.
The island has been closed to tourists for its ecological restoration and rehabilitation since April 26 after President Rodrigo Duterte cited that it has become a “cesspool.”
Puyat reminded the potential tourists of the island to practice responsible and sustainable tourism once it reopens.
“After 6 months of healing, Boracay is set to soft open on October 26. Let us all be responsible tourists in making sure that the island remains clean and its waters, clear and pristine,” Puyat wrote.
