Duterte names police officer as new presidential aide
MANILA, Philippines (Updated 8:27 p.m.) — A police officer and former beauty pageant contestant has replaced Christopher "Bong" Go as President Rodrigo Duterte's aide.
President Duterte announced Wednesday that his close-in security, Senior Inspector Sofia Loren Deliu, has replaced Go, who is running for senator.
"Si...ito...Ang pumalit kay Bong, tumindig ka nga...Harap ka doon sa kanila. Tumindig ka. Anong bang klaseng pulis ito, kapitan pa?," Duterte said while introducing Deliu during the 2017 Philippine Quality award and conferment ceremony in Malacañang.
(She was the one who replaced Bong. Stand up...Face them. Stand up? What kind of policeman is this? A captain?)
Go, who served as Duterte's aide for more than two decades, left the Cabinet after filing his certificate of candidacy.

While she serves as Duterte's aide, Deliu will not don a Cabinet rank and will not be designated Special Assistant to the President, a title created for Go.
Sources said Duterte may no longer appoint a new SAP. Two people are reportedly handling the functions that Go used to perform.
Deliu, a half-Filipina, half-Romanian and a former candidate of Miss Philippines-Earth, has been part of Duterte's security detail since the president assumed office in 2016.
The president stood as Deliu's godfather when she married Abdul Bassar Abdurajak, her classmate at the Philippine National Police Academy last March.
