PAGASA: Cool amihan winds coming
MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists expect the start this week of the northeast monsoon season, which is associated with cold weather.
“We have seen signs that the amihan (northeast monsoon) is coming, including the presence of a high-pressure area in China,” Aldczar Aurelio, weather forecaster at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said in an interview with dzMM.
“It’s (the onset of amihan or northeast monsoon season) possible this week,” Aurelio said.
PAGASA said the northeasterly windflow moved further toward parts of Southern Luzon, including Batangas, Quezon, Bicol and Mimaropa region yesterday.
The weather system was bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers over these areas, PAGASA said.
The northeasterly wind was also prevailing over Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region, bringing light rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will still experience warm and humid weather with chances of thunderstorms.
No tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country in the next three days, Aurelio said.
