MANILA, Philippines – Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay will be running for senator in next year’s elections.
He filed his certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections on Wednesday.

As solicitor general, Hilbay served as the Philippines’ main agent in the arbitration filed against China in 2013.
He was tasked to convince the Hague-based tribunal that it has jurisdiction under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to hear the maritime dispute. He was also in charge of introducing the country’s 15 arguments against Beijing’s claims. – Patricia Lourdes Viray
