Consul arranging repatriation of slain Filipina's remains from Sweden
MANILA, Philippines — Consul General Ma. Elena Algabre has flown from Oslo, Norway to Stockholm, Sweden to help make arrangements for the repatriation of the remains of a Filipina slain by her Swedish husband.
Mailyn Conde Sinambong, a 28-year-old mother of two boys aged 10 and 4, died due to injuries she sustained after allegedly being severely beaten by her husband.
The suspect, 50-year-old Swedish actor-director Steve Abou Bakr Aalam, has been taken into custody and will be charged with murder, the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The incident occurred at their residence in Kista, Stockholm on the evening of September 23.
Algabre is also in Stockholm to meet with the lawyer and prosecutor handling the case to gather more information on the circumstances leading to the Filipina's death.
Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia, on the other hand, had personally extended the condolences of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano to Maria Monato, the mother of the victim.
Garcia assured Monato that the Philippine government will exert all efforts to obtain justice for her daughter.
The DFA earlier said that the all necessary assistance will be extended to the victim's family and to ensure that justice would be served. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
