MANILA, Philippines — The social media team of The Philippine STAR has warned the public against fake reports being attributed to the news organization.
In an advisory on Friday night, The STAR called out an edited post claiming that an arrest warrant for a non-bailable coup d’etat case has already been issued against Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV.
“This Facebook post modified a news update by The Philippine STAR and intentionally used our logo and the name of our justice reporter Edu Punay to deceive readers,” read the announcement.
“We encourage the public to be more vigilant,” it added.
The original post was about the demand of Solicitor General Jose Calida for Trillanes to apologize for claiming that he stole his amnesty application papers.
A separate news update was also released by the organization after the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148 deferred the issuance of an arrest warrant against the senator.
