Go declared honorary member of Duterte’s frat
DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go has urged members of the Lex Talionis fraternity to help the government in its continued fight against corruption.
“There are people in the government who undermine our gains against corruption by abusing their positions for their own personal benefit,” Go said in his speech during the fraternity’s 49th anniversary held at Club Filipino in San Juan on Thursday.
“The President abhors this so I ask you to be vigilant and help us eradicate this social problem throughout his term,” Go said.
Go has been declared an honorary member of Lex Talionis, to which President Duterte belongs.
In his speech, Go also lauded the group for its brotherhood and loyalty to the country.
“One of the traits I have always admired with your brotherhood is your unflinching loyalty… to the fraternity… to your brothers and… to the people whom you believe can change the nation for the better,” Go said.
Go likewise thanked the fraternity members for their loyalty to the President and the trust that Duterte’s programs and their fruits will benefit Filipinos and the greater good.
Go acknowledged that the fraternity has been helping the administration in handling the country’s problems, including the fight against illegal drugs and criminality.
But he noted the President remains fair when it comes to making decisions related to governance despite his connection to a fraternity.
“President Duterte does not have favoritism. Whoever is qualified, he puts them in position. It has always been based on qualifications,” Go said.
The President has appointed several of his fraternity brothers to various government positions.
