Jejomar Binay vows to be ‘constructive voice’ if elected to Congress

MANILA, Philippines — After announcing his bid to seek a House seat on Monday, former vice president Jejomar Binay vowed to become the “constructive voice” in Congress should he get elected in the May 2019 polls.

“Former vice president Jejomar Binay… does not believe in obstructionist politics, or opposing just for the sake of opposing,” Binay’s spokesman Joey Salgado said.

Binay intends to support policies and programs of the government that will surely improve the lives of the Filipino people, but will point out those that could burden the people with a proposed solution, according to Salgado.

He added that Binay acknowledges the discord and division in the Philippines today, which is a compelling factor for everyone to unite for the betterment of the Filipino people.

“It’s about time we begin listening to each other and working together. This is the way to move our country forward,” he said.

Binay’s daughter, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, announced during a flag-raising ceremony on Monday that her father will run for congressman of the first district of Makati City.
