CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines — A fishers group opposed yesterday the plan of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to import more galunggong or round scad amid fears of insufficient supply in the markets due to Typhoon Ompong.
The Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya (Pamalakaya) refuted the statement of BFAR director Eduardo Gongona that the damage brought by Ompong may result in the lack of fish production.
Gongona said the government may consider additional importation after fish farms and cages, especially in Batangas, Iloilo, Laguna and parts of Mindanao were destroyed by the typhoon. – With Rhodina Villanueva
