LPA off Batanes now Tropical Depression Neneng
MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area detected north of Basco, Batanes has intensified into a tropical depression Monday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
The tropical depression has been named “Neneng.”
Tropical cyclone warning signal number one has been hoisted over Batanes. Residents of the province will experience occasional rains with gusty winds.
“Fisherfolks and those with small sea crafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboard of Batanes,” PAGASA said.
The trough of the tropical depression will also bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Babuyan Group of Islands and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Norte and Apayao.
“Neneng”—which moves south southwest at 10 kilometers per hour—is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday.
It packs maximum winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers per hour.
“Neneng” was last seen 120 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes.
PAGASA is also monitoring typhoon (Mangkhut), which is forecast to develop into a super typhoon.
At 10 a.m., the eye of “Mangkhut” was located 2,440 kilometers east of Southern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of up to 140 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 170 kilometers per hour.
Moving west at 30 kilometers per hour, the typhoon may enter PAR by Wednesday.
