DOLE announces pay rules for August 21

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment has announced the payment of wages on August 21, a regular holiday in the country in observance of Eid'l Adha and Ninoy Aquino Day. 

The regular holiday in observance of the Muslim feast of Eid-al Adha or Feast of Sacrifice will be on August 21, on the same special holiday commemorating the assassination of former senator Benigno Aquino Jr.

Through Proclamation No. 556, President Rodrigo Duterte declared August 21 a regular holiday upon the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. 

Eid’l Adha is observed from the eve of August 21 through the entire August 22. But August 22 is not a holiday.

Employees who will not report to work on August 21 will be paid 100 percent of their salary for that day, but still subject to certain conditions under the implementing rules and regulations. 

Work done on a regular holiday that also falls on a special day shall be paid an additional 30 percent of an employee's daily rate of 200 percent. 

Work done in excess of eight hours or overtime work on said day shall be paid an additional 30 percent of an employee's hourly rate. 

Those who will work on the said day, which is also a rest day for employees, will be paid an additional 50 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours of work. 

Work done in excess of eight hours on the said day which is also the rest day of the employee shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the said day.
