MANILA, Philippines— Amid the rainy season, the World Health Organization of the Philippines recently reminded the public that direct contact with contaminated flood waters might put one at risk to diseases like leptospirosis.

WHO defined leptospirosis as an infectious disease caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Leptospira.

The health organization said an outbreak could occur after excessive rainfall or flooding. It added that it could be transmitted to humans through cuts and abrasions on the skin, among others.

Due to this, WHO released seven tips on how an individual can prevent leptospirosis transmission and shared what symptoms to watch out for.
