Duterte appoints ex-PBA commissioner to UCPB Board

MANILA, Philippines — Former Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Andres Narvasa Jr. has been appointed as member of the Board of Directors of the United Coconut Planters Bank, Malacañang reported yesterday.

President Duterte issued the appointment for Narvasa, ninth commissioner of the PBA, last Aug. 7.

“Andres Yuseco Narvasa Jr. appointed as member of the UCPB Board to serve the unexpired term of office that began on July 01 2018 and will end on June 30, 2019 vice David Corpin,” the one-page appointment paper read.

Narvasa submitted his resignation to the PBA last Dec. 17, hours before the league was set to open its 43rd season, following the controversial trade of several players that was criticized by fans.

Along with Narvasa, the Palace had released the appointment papers of former acting Foreign Affairs secretary and veteran diplomat Enrique Manalo as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Federal Republic of Germany with the salary and emoluments of a chief of mission, Class 1.

The Palace directed Manalo to submit his credentials for scrutiny of the Commission on Appointments.

Duterte also appointed Rhea Baladjay Peñaflor as assistant secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), while former Metro Manila Development Authority acting spokesperson Pircelyn Burce Pialago was also officially appointed spokesman of the agency with a rank of assistant secretary. 

Victor Atok del Rosario was appointed commissioner of the National Youth Commission representing the Visayas and D. Guilmar Vodanes was designated member of the Board of Trustees of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Production Unit Inc.

The Palace also released the appointment papers of Ramon Banta as member of the Central Board of Assessment Appeals of the Department of Finance for a term expiring on Jan. 6, 2023 vice Roberto Geolina.

Silverio Castillao was also appointed member of the Central Board of Assessment Appeals of the DOF vice Thelma Mariano, for a term expiring on Jan. 6, 2025.

Poppert Bernadas was also appointed member of the Cinema Evaluation Board of the Film Development Council of the Philippines representing the Arts, Academe, Business and other sectors for a term expiring on Sept. 3, 2019.  He replaces the late June Keithley-Castro.

Alexis Lagtapon, meanwhile, was appointed presidential legislative liason officer II.
