Intense rains expected in Metro Manila, nearby provinces

MANILA, Philippines — Orange warning level has been raised over Metro Manila, Rizal, Bataan and Zambales on Wednesday due to rains brought about by the southwest monsoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday.

This means that intense rainfall has fallen in the past three hours and is most likely to persist for the next three hours.

Communities in areas under the orange rainfall warning are advised to be prepared as flooding is threathening in low-lying areas and near river channels.

Meanwhile, yellow warning level has been raised in Pampanga, Tarlac, Bulacan, Cavite, Nueva Ecija and northern Luzon.

This means that heavy rainfall has fallen or expected to fall and most likely to continue for the next three hours. PAGASA warned that flooding is possible in low-lying areas and near river channels.

The state weather bureau also said that Laguna, Batangas and the rest of Quezon will experience light to moderate with occasional heavy rains within three hours.

As of 3 a.m., a low pressure area was located 540 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan. 

Tropical storm Henry, which is now outside the Philippine area of repsonsibility, has been spotted 1,115 kilometers west of extreme northern Luzon with maximum winds of 80 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 95 kph.

The southwest monsoon will continue to affect Luzon and Visayas while Mindanao is forecasted to expereince localized thunderstorms. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
