Nueva Ecija offers P1-M bounty for Mayor Bote killer
MANILA, Philippines — The provincial government of Nueva Ecija has offered a reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the killer of General Tinio Mayor Ferdinand Bote.
According to a report from state-run PTV, the provincial government offered a bounty worth P1 million.
Bote was gunned down Tuesday afternoon, a day after Antonio Halili, mayor of Tanauan, Batangas, was shot allegedly by a sniper during a flag-raising ceremony.
The General Tinio mayor was reportedly shot while onboard his Toyota Fortuner and was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, a special investigation task group was formed to look into the killing of Bote.
"SITG Ferdie Bote" will investigate all angles of the crime, including business and politics, according to Central Luzon police director Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus.
Corpus noted that Bote was not included in the so-called "narco list" and there was no background linking him to illegal drugs.
Police investigation showed that gunmen have been following Bote even before entering the National Irrigation Administration. He was attacked after exiting the compound.
Forensic investigators have recovered 18 spent shells from a .45 caliber pistol on the crime scene, according to PTV. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
