MANILA, Philippines — The brewing cyclone spotted east of the Philippines is likely to enter the country this weekend, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

Shelly Ignacio, weather specialist at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the low-pressure area was located at 2,200 kilometers east of Mindanao as of yesterday morning.

Ignacio said the weather system has a chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone and might enter the country this weekend.

PAGASA said the next cyclone will be named Gardo.

Ignacio said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms in the next three days.

Two to four cyclones are predicted to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this month.

A total of six cyclones have entered the country so far this year.
