MANILA, Philippines — Two media workers were shot dead in Cabanatuan City and Marawi City over the weekend.

Manuel Lacsamana, a contributor to monthly publication The Media Messenger in Central Luzon, was gunned down along Mabini Street in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija before midnight of June 23.

Lacsamana was able to drive some distance after he was shot, but he eventually died.

Lacsamana was also a property developer in Nueva Ecija and chairman of the board of the Nueva Ecija chapter of the Central Luzon Media Association.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) said the murder of Lacsamana may be connected to his activities as a property developer.

Undersecretary Josel Sy-Egco, executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Media Safety, vowed justice for Lacsamana as an investigation got underway.

In Marawi City, Jessie Cano, a utility worker of government radio station dxSO, was shot dead while on his way home to Aggie Village in Barangay Cadayonan, Marawi City between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on June 23.
