MANILA, Philippines (2nd update; 12:40 p.m.) — Roilo Golez, who served as national security adviser and Parañaque representative, passed away at age 71 on Monday.
In a report by the Philippine Star, Golez's son confirmed his death hours after the former senior official went live on radio to discuss the landing of a Chinese transport plane in Davao City.
"Napaka-importante para sa gobyerno and maging transparent, na hindi dapat mahuli sa balita. Dapat agad na ina-announce ito para kumalma and mga tao, para hindi magkaroon ng speculation," Golez said in the video and radio interview.
Golez himself posted a video of the radio guesting on his Facebook page on Monday morning showing him coughing and waiting for his turn to air.
"Nakakagulat! I just interviewed him on my show this morning. Now he is dead," said DZRH host Cesar Chavez on Twitter.
There were no immediate details surrounding his death made available.
