Duterte to meet Filipinos in Seoul Sunday
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is set to meet thousands of Filipinos working and residing in Seoul, South Korea on Sunday afternoon.
Duterte will meet around 3,000 Filipinos at the Grand Hilton Hotel and Convention Center at 3 p.m.
Ambassador Raul Hernandez reportedly said the Filipinos in South Korea are “very excited” to personally meet Duterte.
“You know, the Filipino community here in South Korea is solidly behind the president and in his campaign against corruption, against drugs, and against criminality,” the envoy was quoted in a Palace release.
Duterte is on his first official visit to the Republic of Korea. He arrived via a commercial flight at around 4:00 a.m. He will be in South Korea until June 5.
Among the officials with the president are presidential spokesperon Harry Roque, Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato dela Peña, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez, and Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
Duterte is also slated to have a closed-door meeting with South Korea President Moon Jae-in at the Blue House on Monday. —Rosette Adel
