MANILA, Philippines — Lawyer Karen Jimeno has a new government post.
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Jimeno as the new undersecretary for disaster resilience under the Presidential Management Staff. The appointment letter is dated May 15.
Undersecretary Ferdinand Cui Jr. is currently the acting head of the PMS.
Jimeno was an undersecretary at the Department of Public Works and Highways prior to her new appointment.
She also served as head for External Affairs and Communications for the Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery, headed by Sen. Panfilo Lacson during the administration of President Benigno Aquino III.
Jimeno was known for being part of the defense team and for being the spokesperson of Chief Justice Renato Corona in his impeachment case in 2012.
More recently, she also served as spokesperson of Tapang at Malasakit Alliance, a group of Duterte supporters. The group was launched in October 2017 and is headed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, the president's daughter.
Among the members of the alliance are RJ Nieto of the Thinking Pinoy blog and Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.
