MANILA, Philippines — Students of the University of the Philippines Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University and Miriam College will join together on Friday afternoon for a protest against the ouster of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

On Friday morning, majority the Supreme Court voted to oust Sereno for failure to meet the "integrity test" of her position.

The decision comes after the plea of Solicitor General Jose Calida, which challenged the legality of Sereno's appointment to the high tribunal.

Meanwhile, the resident members of UP Portia Sorority, where Sereno is an alumna, have expressed indignation at the decision of the Supreme Court.

The sorority stressed that as mandated by the Constitution, members of the Supreme Court may only be removed through impeachment.

"In unjustly stripping the Chief Justice of her title, the assenting Justices have shown themselves undeserving of their own. Supreme the Court may be in name, but the only greatness it has shown today is in the depths to which it has sunk," the UP Portia Sorority said in a statement.
