Party-list filing of intent to run ends

Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Party-list organizations eyeing to run in the May 2019 midterm polls have until today to file their manifestation of intent to participate with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In a resolution issued on April 27, the Comelec extended the deadline for registration of party-list groups until today.

A total of 115 accredited party-list groups were allowed to take part in the 2016 elections.

Of the number, 46 organizations are now occupying 59 seats in the House of Representatives.

The Comelec has disqualified 24 party-list organizations from participating in next year’s polls for failure to take part in the last two elections.

According to the poll body, 18 organizations were delisted after they failed to get at least two percent of the votes cast for the party-list elections.

The groups also failed to bag a seat in the second round of allocation for the party-list system during the previous elections.
