DOLE remains hopeful for EO on ‘endo’
MANILA, Philippines — A week after announcing the junking of the executive order on contractualization, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) remains hopeful that it will be signed by President Duterte to end short-term employment in the country.
The President is being criticized for supposedly reneging on his campaign promise to end contractualization in the country, tossing the responsibility to Congress.
In a press conference yesterday, DOLE Undersecretary Joel Maglunsod said there is still a chance the EO against end-of-contract or “endo” semployment practice will be reconsidered by the President.
“We are still open to the possibility that the EO, which the workers have been expecting to see, would still be considered by the President. Hopefully by May 1, Labor Day,” he noted.
Last week, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced that Duterte will no longer sign the EO on contractualization.
Instead, Bello said the President will certify as a priority bill the proposed Security of Tenure Act pending in Congress.
