MANILA, Philippines — Ticket vending machines at Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 are now accepting the new coins circulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

The Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that the newly-designed P1, P5 and P10 are now recognized by the ticketing machines of the metro’s three mass transit systems.

“The newly-designed coins, as component of the day-to-day transactions to pay for goods and services, have become completely part of the railway transport system as the recalibration of the TVMs was completed on April 16, 2018,” DOTr said in a statement.

The entire recalibration process took three months, the agency added.

The complete set of the New Generation Currency coins, all made of nickel-plated steel resulting, was unveiled by the BSP last month.

The new coins are in circulation alongside the old ones.
