MANILA, Philippines — Solicitor General Jose Calida has called Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno a “liar” over her claim that she has recovered some of her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.

Lawyer Jojo Lacanilao, Sereno’s spokesperson, said on Thursday that the chief justice has “recently retrieved her 1985, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997” SALNs.

Lacanilao added that Sereno has retrieved her 1998 SALN from the Office of the Ombudsman, while her SALN for 2002 was found with the University of the Philippines Human Resource Development Office.

But Calida, in a series of tweets, slammed Sereno for “misleading the public.”

“Except for her 1989 SALN, assuming it is not a fabrication, those Sereno supposedly ‘recovered’ were the same ones submitted by the OSG to the SC,” Calida said.

“Liar,” he added.

Sereno’s SALN is central to Calida’s ouster petition against Sereno. He said that the chief magistrate failed to meet the "integrity test" when she did not submit her SALNs for several years.

The government's chief legal counsel asked the high tribunal to nullify Sereno's appointment as member of the court.

The high tribunal held an almost six-hour oral argument hearing on April 10, at the SC Session Hall in Baguio.

The SC, headed by Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio, ordered Sereno and Calida to file their respective memorandum on the petition for quo warranto on or before April 20. After their submission, the case will be deemed submitted for resolution.
