DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A department undersecretary is reportedly also on the way out.
President Duterte said Thursday night that an undersecretary will soon be dismissed although he did not identify the official.
“I am going to fire another one, an undersecretary,” the President told those who attended a dinner concert at the Sofitel Hotel the other night.
Duterte was also mum as to what office the government official is connected with.
The news on the undersecretary about to be axed came after former justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II resigned from his post last Thursday morning.
Aguirre reportedly sent his resignation letter to the President a day after attending the 24th Cabinet meeting last Wednesday.
At least a dozen high-ranking government officials have been either sacked or resigned from office since Duterte assumed office on June 30, 2016.
Aguirre was the latest among these officials Duterte fired.
The others include former interior and local government secretary Mike Sueno, National Irrigation Administration chief Peter Laviña and Dangerous Drugs Board chief Dionisio Santiago.
They were fired either for allegations of graft and corruption or excessive foreign travels.
