Typhoon Caloy intensifies, heads north
MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Caloy (international name Jelawat) has intensified further as it continued to move northeast outside the Philippine area of responsibility, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.
At 10 a.m. yesterday, the center of Caloy was estimated at 2,080 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.
“Packing maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph, Caloy is forecast to move east northeast at 25 kph,” PAGASA said.
The estimated rainfall amount is moderate to heavy within the 700-kilometer diameter of the typhoon.
Caloy did not affect any part of the country.
