Aiza Seguerra steps down as youth commission chair
MANILA, Philippines — Celebrity-turned-public official Aiza Seguerra has quit his post as the chairperson of the National Youth Commission.
The Office of the Executive Secretary has received the resignation of Seguerra, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said in a press briefing Tuesday.
He reportedly resigned last March 5 but his resignation will be effective on April 5.
Seguerra was appointed as the NYC chief last August 2016.
He and his partner Liza Diño have been vocal supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte. Diño currently heads the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
During his stint as NYC chair, Seguerra pleaded to Duterte to stop making rape jokes.
NYC, founded in 1995, is the government’s sole policy-making body on youth affairs.
