Duterte has final say on Bong Go run for Senate
MANILA, Philippines — President Duterte will have the final say on whether his longtime aide Christopher “Bong” Go would run for the Senate in 2019.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque believes Go would follow whatever the President wants him to do.
“He (Go) has said that personally he would not run, but if the President asks him to, he will,” Roque said in a press briefing yesterday.
Last month, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said he would convince Go to run for senator under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, Duterte’s political party.
Go, who has been sending photos of himself to reporters, initially claimed that he was not interested to seek a Senate seat.
But in an ambush interview in Pasay last week, Go changed his tune, saying it would be up to Duterte to decide whether he would pursue a senatorial bid.
Supporters of Go, who called themselves the “Ready, Set, Go” group, will hold a meeting in Intramuros, Manila tomorrow to convince the presidential aide to run for senator. The senatorial election will be held next year.
