MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Iglesia ni Cristo executive minister Eduardo Manalo as special envoy for overseas Filipino concerns.
The appointment paper, which bears Duterte's signature, was dated Feb. 13, 2018.
Manalo's appointment came after Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced that the government will establish more Philippine Overseas Labor Offices to better serve and monitor the welfare of overseas Filipino workers.
Roy Cimatu, the previous special envoy for OFW concerns, was appointed as Environment secretary in May 2017.
The influential Iglesia ni Cristo, whose endorsement candidates court during election season, backed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for president in 2016.
