4 areas under Signal No. 2 as 'Vinta' moves closer to Mindanao
MANILA, PHILIPPINES (UDPATED 11:44 a.m.) — Tropical Storm Vinta (international name: Tembin) has maintained its intensity as it heads to eastern Mindanao Thursday morning.
Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains is expected over Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region and Northern Mindanao within 24 hours. PAGASA said on its 11 a.m. weather bulletin.
Residents of Surigao del Norte including Siargao Islands, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur and Northern Davao Oriental will experience wet holidays as PAGASA hoisted Signal No. 2 over these areas.
Meanwhile, Southern Leyte, southern portion of Leyte, Southern Cebu, Siquijor, and Bohol,Dinagat Island, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, North Cotabato, Maguindanao, Rest of Davao Oriental, Northern Davao del Sur, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur are under Signal No. 1.
"Vinta" was located at 340 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It is forecast to move west at 18 kilometers per hour.
It has a maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
"Vinta," which has intensified into a tropical storm early Thursday morning, may hit the land over the Caraga-Davao Region area between tonight or Friday morning.
PAGASA said it is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday morning.

"Urduja" recently exited the country on Tuesday leaving 41 people dead and 45 missing, according to the figures from the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.
Initial assessments show that "Urduja" resulted in over P543 million in damage to infrastructure. A total of 12,682 families remain in evacuation centers.
