MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order revamping the composition of the EDSA People Power Commission by designating the head of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines as ex officio chairman of the body.

Malacañang on Tuesday released a copy of EO 47 that was signed by Duterte on November 24.

The new EO amended former President Joseph Estrada’s EO 82 which created the EDSA People Power Commission to institutionalize the legacy of the bloodless revolution that toppled the Marcos dictatorship in 1986.

“There is a need to further amend EO 82 to ensure an effective integration of the functions of the EDSA People Power Commission and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines,” Duterte said in his EO.

Under EO 47, the commission will have four other members from the private sector, who will all be appointed by the president and will serve for a period of three years.

The chief executive will also designate one of the members as vice-chairman of the commission.

The NHCP will also assume the management of the People Power monument and “ensure its continued maintenance and upkeep.”
