Duterte: Año will be DILG chief in 2018

MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Eduardo Año will assume the leadership of the Department of Interior and Local Government in 2018 when the one-year ban on the appointment of retiring military officials to government posts expires, President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Thursday.
Speaking during the installation of Lt. Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero as the new AFP chief, Duterte said that Año could be a special assistant to the president or an undersecretary, whichever is allowed by law, while waiting for the ban to lapse.
Año was supposed to step down early from his post in June after Duterte announced his appointment to the DILG in May.
However, his appointment was deferred as he was tasked to lead the military campaign in Marawi where Islamist militants mounted the most serious security issue to confront the government of Duterte.
