UP slips in university rankings as Ateneo, La Salle, UST advance

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines remains the country’s top tertiary education institution despite falling five places on the latest Quacquarelli Symonds Asia University Rankings.
Based on the 2018 QS rankings, UP dropped to 75th place from 70th place in 2016 and 2017.
The country’s premier university also placed 367th in the 2018 QS World University Rankings.

Ateneo de Manila University joined UP in the top 100 after improving its ranking to 95th place this year from 99th place in the previous year.
De La Salle University and University of Santo Tomas also improved their Asian university rankings at 134th and 145th places, respectively.
UST is the sole institution in the country to receive four QS stars for employability, facilities, social responsibility and inclusiveness.
The University of San Carlos maintained its place in the 301-350 cluster, while Silliman University dipped to 351-400 cluster from 251-300 in the previous year.
Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University replaced the National University of Singapore—now at the second place—as the top university in Asia.
QS uses 10 performance indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student, international faculty, international students, inbound exchange, outbound exchange, faculty staff with Ph.D., papers per faculty and citations per paper.
