MANILA, Philippines — Only 398 of 6,129 resolved homicides recorded between July 2016 to September 2017 are related to drugs, the Philippine National Police said.
According to the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, 93.51 percent — or 5,731 — of homicides were found to have been related to other motives and circumstances.
According to Senior Superintendent Adelio Benjamin Castillo, chief of the DIDM's Case Monitoring Division, more common motives are "arguments and misunderstanding, personal grudge, land dispute, love triangle, family dispute or 'Rido,' atrocities by threat groups, business rivalry, road rage, unpaid debt, indiscriminate firing, and revenge."
The PNP has also filed 3,475 separate criminal charges against suspects arrested for the slay cases. Another 2,654 charges have also been filed against identified suspects who are not yet in police custody. They are the subject of manhunt operations.
The 6,129 resolved cases are part of 15,911 homicide cases that the PNP recorded and investigated.
Cases are considered solved when at least one suspect has been arrested and charged in court. Cases are considered cleared when suspects have been identified and charges have been filed.
