MANILA, Philippines — Various government agencies, local government units and private establishments are expected to participate in tomorrow’s Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The Strike Gymnasium in Bacoor City, Cavite will serve as the ceremonial area of the activity, according to the council.
Local drills will be conducted in other parts of the country through regional disaster risk reduction and management councils.
The NDRRMC called on the public to also participate in the activity and join the Office of Civil Defense in its “Bida Ang Handa” social media campaign.
Nationwide earthquake drills are being held quarterly to prepare the public and make everyone ready in case disaster strikes – especially the anticipated “Big One.”
The NDRRMC was supposed to hold its third-quarter nationwide drill last Sept. 21 but opted to postpone it to a later date as President Duterte declared a national day of protest, observing the 45th anniversary of the declaration of martial law by the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
