SWS: Satisfaction on govâ��t slips, but still â��very goodâ��

MANILA, Philippines — Public satisfaction of the Duterte administration slightly dropped in the second quarter of 2017 but still remained in the “very good” threshold, a survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations showed.

The survey, conducted from June 23 to 26 with the results published in BusinessWorld Tuesday, showed that 75 percent of the respondents were satisfied with the performance of the national administration.

Eleven percent said they were dissatisfied, while the remaining 13 percent said they were undecided.

The figures yielded a “very good” +64 net satisfaction rating for the administration in June, two points lower than the “very good” +66 rating (75 percent satisfied, 9 percent dissatisfied) obtained in March.

The net satisfaction rating is obtained by subtracting the percentage of those who said that they were dissatisfied with the administration from those who said that they were satisfied.

SWS classifies net trust ratings as follows: +70 and above, excellent; +50 to +69, very good; +30 to +49, good; +10 to +29, moderate; +9 to -9, neutral; -10 to -29, poor; -30 to -49, bad; -50 to -69, very bad; -70 and below, execrable.

In terms of geographic locations, the net satisfaction rating of the administration increased in Metro Manila (+62 to +67) and balance Luzon (+60 to +63) while it declined in Visayas (+67 to +56) and Mindanao (+79 to +72).

Net satisfaction also decreased in all socio-economic classes, from +61 to +55 in class ABC, +66 to +64 in class D and +69 to +68 in class E.

Specific issues

Meanwhile, the Duterte administration obtained “very good” ratings on four specific issues: helping the poor (+65), protecting human rights (+55), defending the country’s territorial rights (+51) and providing jobs (+51).

The administration obtained “good” ratings in fighting terrorism (+49), foreign relations (+44), fighting crimes (+43), eradicating graft and corruption (+43) and solving the problem of extrajudicial killings (+34).

Also rated “good” were issues including reconciling with Muslim rebels (+32), ensuring that no family will ever be hungry (+32) and reconciling with communist rebels (+31).

The administration obtained “moderate” net satisfaction ratings on three issues: recovering the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses (+26), resolving the traffic problem (+25) and fighting inflation (+24).

The survey had a margin of error of +/- three percent.
