MANILA, Philippines - Sunvar Realty Development Corp. of the Rufino and Prieto families was ordered to vacate the Mile Long property in Makati City yesterday.

Solicitor General Jose Calida, accompanied by the sheriff of the Makati regional trial court (RTC), served the notice to vacate issued by RTC Branch 141 Judge Maryann Corpus-Manalac earlier in the day.

The notice covered not only Sunvar Realty but also other tenants on the property.

The RTC issued the order pursuant to the ruling issued by the Court of Appeals (CA) last Monday directing execution of the June 2015 decision of Makati Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 61 for Sunvar to vacate Mile Long.

Calida, accompanied by court sheriff Robert Bautista, personally served the notice to Sunvar Realty and all the tenants.

The solicitor general earlier revealed that Sunvar owed the government P1.656 billion in unpaid rentals – exclusive of legal interest.

Sunvar occupied the Mile Long property on Feb. 28, 1982 through a lease agreement that expired on Dec. 31, 2002. Despite expiration of lease, Sunvar continued to occupy the property.

Calida said that since 2003 or for the last 14 years and seven months, Sunvar has been squatting, illegally using and occupying the Mile Long property and despite notices, continued to remain in possession and collect millions in rentals from its tenants.
