Government, NDF peace talks to resume
MANILA, Philippines - The government peace panel and the National Democratic Front (NDF) will meet for their fifth round of peace talks from May 27 to June 1.
Norwegian Ambassador Erik Førner said the fifth round of talks would be held in Noordwijk in the Netherlands. Formal negotiations resumed in August 2016.
“The government and the NDF are determined to continue the peace process. There have been several meetings between the parties in Manila during the past weeks, and we hope it will be possible to take the process even further when the parties meet again for another formal round of talks,” Førner said.
The talks will be facilitated by Norwegian special envoy to the peace process Elisabeth Slåttum and her team.
The armed conflict between government security forces and the New People’s Army, the communist movement’s armed wing, has lasted for almost 50 years.
Norway has been the facilitator of the peace process since 2001.
