Costa Rica mulls pardon for 50 undocumented Pinoys

MANILA, Philippines - Costa Rican President Luís Guillermo Solís is considering the Philippines’ request to grant amnesty to 50 undocumented Filipinos in the Central American state.
Solis conveyed this to Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Eduardo de Vega when the request was raised after his presentation of credentials as non-resident ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Costa Rica in San José.
There are about 50 Filipinos not properly documented in Costa Rica and leaders of the Filipino community have asked the support of the embassy to intercede with local officials on their behalf.
Before presenting his credentials to Solis, De Vega met with the Filipino community in San Jose.
During the meeting, De Vega lauded the dedication and commitment of Honorary Consul Pablo Guier Acosta and Honorary Vice Consul Miriam Miranda Rovira in safeguarding and promoting the interests of Filipinos in Costa Rica, especially in extending legal, consular and immigration assistance to them.
The Filipino community in Costa Rica informed De Vega that they are monitoring the political developments in the Philippines and affirm their support for President Duterte’s programs.
