MANILA, Philippines - More than 1,700 Liberal Party (LP) members in Cebu yesterday threw their support behind Vice President Leni Robredo, who is facing impeachment threats and an electoral protest.
“We the 1,700-plus members of The Silent Majority-Cebu hereby reiterate our strong support and steadfast commitment to the protection of the legal mandate given by Filipinos upon Leni Robredo as the duly elected Vice President of the Philippines,” the LP-Cebu said in a statement.
LP-Cebu members called on the public to prevent any plot “by the sinister minds” to unseat her, saying this “will undermine democracy, permanently damage our electoral system and give rise to another dictator.”
They cited Robredo’s more than a decade of work to provide free legal service to the most marginalized sectors in the country.
As a congresswoman of Camarines Sur, Robredo had advocated “pro-people” bills, the LP-Cebu members added.
Robredo is facing an electoral protest filed by former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET).
