Cebu Province’s revenue higher by 15 percent

Le Phyllis F. Antojado-Orillaneda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The revenue of the Cebu Provincial government for the first three months of the year has reached to P914 million, according to the provincial treasurer.

The amount is P121 million higher than last year’s P793.6 million for the same period.

Provincial Treasurer Emmanuel Guial said the bulk of the revenue came from the province’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share amounting to P727.8 million, while tax and fees collection totaled P94.8 million; real property tax, P72.9 million; and regulatory fees such as governor’s permit and clearances, P21.9 million.

The provincial and district hospitals have also contributed P65.3 million while the Cebu South Bus Terminal has collected P16.3 million in revenue for the same period.

Guial said the province’s massive tax collection campaign, which includes the Capitol reminding taxpayers on their responsibility, was one of the reasons for the increase in revenue collection.

He said the issuance of permits to delivery trucks and vans also contributed. He said that for the whole year last year, the Capitol issued 11,000 permits, which has been surpassed already just within the first three months of 2017.

“Karon wala pa mahurot ang tuig moabot na sa 14,000 sa delivery sa trucks and van nga atong na issue-han.  Of course payment with taxes na na sya,” he said.

Guial said all local taxes will go to the provincial government’s general fund, which they targeted to reach P3.3 billion. (FREEMAN)
