Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is now accepting applications for associate justice of the Supreme Court (SC) to replace Justice Jose Mendoza, who is due to retire on Aug. 13 when he turns 70, the mandatory retirement age for members of the judiciary.

The council is also searching for a replacement for Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Maria Cristina Cornejo who went on disability retirement since March 1.

The JBC said applications and recommendations, together with one complete set of original or certified true copy of the documentary requirements, must be received by the JBC, located at the Centennial Building of the Supreme Court along Padre Faura street in Manila, not later than May 23.

The JBC reminded applicants that the date of actual receipt of their applications and complete documentary requirements would be deemed as the date of filing. Qualifications of applicants shall be reckoned from the deadline on May 23.

It also said that applications sent through electronic mail (email) or facsimile, as well as other documents which are incomplete, out of date or without a transmittal letter, would not be given due course.
