Internships not covered by field trip ban – CHED

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) yesterday clarified that the moratorium issued on the conduct of field trips and related out-of-school events does not cover internships and similar activities.

CHED chair Patricia Licuanan issued a memorandum clarifying an earlier order that indefinitely suspended the conduct of field trips, educational tours and other related activities in all colleges and universities.

In the latest memorandum, Licuanan said local and international internships, international educational trips and international educational linkages are exempted from the moratorium.

Also exempted are on-the-job training, practicum, field instruction, field study and ship board training.

Licuanan urged universities to seek clarification from CHED regional offices for out-of-school activities not identified in the new memorandum.

The commission on Tuesday imposed a moratorium on field trips, educational tours and similar out-of-school activities following the bus accident in Tanay, Rizal that killed 15 people and injured 40 students of BestLink College of the Philippines.

The students were en route to a three-day medical and survival training in Sacramento Adventure Camp in Tanay as part of the National Service Training Program.
